The most popular and effective choice when it comes to translucent window covering is Frostbrite frosted film. Long lasting, durable and easy to apply, it is the super-stylish way of adding privacy to your windows and glass.

What is translucent window film?

Translucent film for glass has been designed to be retro fitted to existing windows, with the primary function of creating a privacy solution for glass. Frostbrite frosted window film from The Window Film Company is a popular example, applied to glass with a water-based application process that can be completed with no prior experience. Once installed, the film will block the view from both sides of the glass, without sacrificing natural light.

An application of window film such as this is far more effective and beneficial than traditional techniques such as curtains and blinds, primarily because drawing curtains or blinds will block the view, but it will also block natural light, having a negative impact on the internal environment during daylight hours.

The glass film offered by The Window Film Company is an advanced and durable product, it isn’t simply sticky back plastic or static cling, but a specially developed window film solution provided cut to size or by the metre. If purchased online for DIY installation, each order of window film will arrive complete with full fitting instructions and a free plastic application squeegee.

How will translucent frosted film look once applied?

After fitting translucent Frostbrite film to your glazing, the glass will take on the appearance of acid-etched or sandblasted glass. A stylish, contemporary look that will serve as a highly effective privacy solution while still allowing excellent levels of natural light to pass through the glass. An application of Frostbrite window film will, as the name suggests, give your glazing an attractive frosted look, without the need for expensive replacement glass.

The film is effective immediately, giving windows an etched glass look with a white frost style effect.

Cut patterns are created by computer cutting stylish patterns from the film, with the patterned area of the film ending up clear and the rest of the panel translucent in appearance. You can also choose from a stunning range of white patterns, which sees the design of your choice printed onto the window film in brilliant white ink, using state of the art print technology.

Whichever decorative option you choose, each order is created by The Window Film Company’s in-house graphics and print team, with each piece of translucent window covering created to your exact size specifications., making it a genuinely bespoke product – made especially for you and your glass.

Other window films for glass

The Window Film Company offer a host of ways to alter your glass with window films. Thanks to film and window tints, it is possible to deliver a host of different glass effects, ranging from solar control to safety – even coloured window films stained-glass style finishes. In short, if you have glass window films can deliver an upgrade or solution.

·        Solar control and heat reduction films work by blocking a percentage of the sun’s solar energy before it can pass through glass and into your property, stopping the rapid rise in internal temperature. These films will also help to reduce glare and filter out the majority of UV rays – one of the main causes of fade damage.

·        Coloured window films can be used to quickly and easily change the colour of your glass. Rainbow window film is an adhesive film that will change the colour of your glass without blocking the view or stopping natural light from passing through the window. Easy to install and available in a range of vibrant shades, you can choose to apply a single colour, or use multiple variations to create a stunning stained glass effect. Solid colour vinyls are also available, again offered in a variety of vibrant finishes, with this type of film chosen when blocking the view and the light is also a requirement.

·        Privacy is a common requirement, with opal frost effect films a popular solution, as detailed above. If the two way privacy delivered by translucent films isn’t appropriate, then daytime one-way privacy can be achieved with an application of reflective window film. Once applied, the film will give the external face of the glass a mirrored appearance during daytime hours, meaning passers-by will see their own reflection instead of getting a view into your home or premises. This film is suitable for daytime one-way privacy as it works on the light balance; it’s the side of the film that is exposed to the brightest levels of light that will take on the reflective appearance, with the view from the inside out preserved.

·        Safety and security films work in a number of ways, with the primary function being to keep glass together in the frame in the event of accidental or malicious damage. Once applied, safety or security film from The Window Film Company will serve to make glass more resistant to breakage, but no matter the grade used, no film can be guaranteed to stop breakage. Instead, it will hold broken glass together, stopping it from falling in on itself and causing damage or potentially serious injuries. How do I fit translucent film for glass?

Installing window film is a straightforward process that can be successfully completed with no prior experience and nothing more than a few standard household items. The first step is to thoroughly clean your window. Please be as thorough as you can when cleaning your glazing, as the cleaner the glass, the better the install will be. Next, create a soapy water solution by adding a few drops of washing up liquid to a plant spray bottle. Use the spray bottle to completely cover the window with soapy water, then remove the backing sheet from your film and do the same top the exposed side of the film.

With both the film and window covered in the soapy water solution, take the film to the glass and allow it to flow onto the pane. Use the application squeegee (supplied free with each order of translucent window film from The Window Film Company) to push the water to the edge of the frame and then use a clean dry cloth to mop up any remaining excess moisture.

If you’d prefer the installation of translucent film to be done for you, The Window Film Company offers a nationwide installation service, with teams of fully qualified and vastly experienced fitters available to carry out the fitting for you.
