UV rays are the biggest single contributing factor when it comes to fade damage, providing a year round threat to interiors. The Window Film Company offers a range of window films that deliver excellent UV protection, helping to mitigate against potentially expensive damage caused by fading.
Left unchecked, standard glass will allow UV rays to pass through windows, combining with heat and visible light to cause fading. UV light is the biggest contributing factor to fading, contributing 40% to the process (visible light is 25%, heat contributes 25% with other factors such as ventilation and artificial light accounting for the remaining 10%) and this means that fading can be a year round concern.
Understanding the factors leading to fading allows for an informed choice when trying to mitigate against it. To remove all risk of fading, all of the contributing factors would have to be removed – this would involve allowing no heat or light to pass through windows, effectively removing any of the benefits that glass and glazing bring. This clearly isn’t a sensible approach in the majority of situations, with specialist window film from The Window Film Company offering a usable and effective solution.
This project, at a modern and stylish office in the heart of central London, required a product that would help reduce the impact of UV rays, without blocking the view or changing the aesthetic appearance of the glass. These two requirements meant there was one film suitable for the job; Clear UV.
Sometimes referred to as “museum film” as it is used to protect cabinets containing valuable exhibits, Clear UV is an optically clear window film that blocks up to 99% of UV light, without sacrificing the view or altering the appearance of glazing. This film is particularly helpful for situations that require an uninterrupted view such as shopfronts, or for projects such as this, where the appearance of the glass needed to be unchanged for aesthetic purposes.
Clear UV window film was applied to the internal face of over 90 panes of glass throughout the property, with the film being effective immediately, without altering the appearance of the glass.
For an added layer of fade mitigation, it’s possible to install window films that also have an element of heat reduction, while our Amber 81 UV film provides the ultimate in protection for situations that demand specialist UV reduction and protection.
Whatever your requirement, The Window Film Company will have a UV protection window film to suit, so please call a member of our friendly team on 01494 794477 or email sales@windowfilm.co.uk for more information.
