HEAT REDECTION FOR ROOFLIGHTS

The Window Film Company is an expert supplier and installer of solar control window film for heat and glare reduction. This project saw the application of high-performance heat reduction window film to a series of large rooflights at a property in Surrey.

The benefits of windows and glazing are numerous and well known. Not only is glass stylish in terms of its appearance and aesthetic, it also provides a two-way view and allows for natural light to enter buildings – a welcome benefit in both commercial and residential settings. While the positive aspects of windows will almost certainly not need highlighting, glazing can bring with it unforeseen issues including fading, excess glare and high temperatures.

Window film from The Window Film Company will provide immediate, long-lasting and stylish relief from all of these issues.

Fading is caused by a combination of UV light (the biggest contributing factor), light and heat, and by reducing each of these elements, solar control window film will help slow down and mitigate against the fading process. Glare can be a year round problem, with the changing position of the sun sometimes making it difficult to focus when light streams through glass. An application of window film will help reduce the glare; think of it as a set of sunglasses for your glazing!

During warmer months, excess heat can be a real issue for premises with large quantities of glazing, and this was the case for this project. The premises benefits from a number of rooflights, and during summer, they were resulting in the internal temperature quickly rising to uncomfortable levels.

Heat reduction window film works by reflecting away a percentage of the sun’s heat (solar energy) before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. By rejecting a percentage  of heat, it prevents the steady build up of excess heat inside the premises and helps to ensure a more enjoyable temperature.

Access issues meant that it wasn’t possible to apply the film to the inside face of the glass, so on this occasion the external grade of The Window Film Company’s most popular solar control film – High Reflective Silver – was used.

The film was applied to each panel of the numerous rooflights by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers, with the film effective immediately as soon as it was in place, delivering 78% solar energy rejection, glare reduction of up to 79% and up to 99% of UV light filtered out.
