PREMIER LEAGUE PROTECTION

Glare can be a year-round issue, making it uncomfortable to focus due to sunlight shining through glass. The shifting position of the sun throughout the day and across the seasons means that even if it isn’t particularly warm, glare can still create an uncomfortable internal environment. An application of window film from The Window Film Company can provide an immediate solution.

Solar control window films from The Window Film Company offer a number of benefits. They can provide excellent heat reduction solutions, their reflective appearance serving to bounce away a percentage of the sun’s heat before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. Window film can also help protect against fading and harmful UV damage – the majority of solar control window films supplied and installed by the Window Film Company block up to 99% of the sun’s UV rays (the biggest single contributing factor to fading).

The third solution delivered by these types of film is glare reduction. In simple terms, this is achieved by acting like a pair of sunglasses for your glass; the film filters out the harshest of the light, reducing the glare and making for a more comfortable internal environment all year round.

The performance levels depend on the type of film chosen, with a wide range of films available, specifically designed to meet clients’ needs in terms of both performance and appearance. The Optiview range of window films is a consistently popular choice, as it has been specially developed to maintain the balance between performance and aesthetic, delivering high levels of glare reduction while still ensuring a constant view from the inside out.

For this project, an installation at the training facility of AFC Bournemouth of the English Premier League, Optiview 05 was the chosen film – the highest performing product from the range. The primary requirement was for glare reduction; the front of the facility benefits from a vast expanse of stylish glazing, and while it looked fantastic and provided a welcome view and volume of natural light inside, glare was proving to be an unwelcome distraction.

In addition to rejecting up to 80% of solar energy and blocking up to 99% of potentially harmful rays, crucially for this job, the Optiview 05 window film reduces glare by up to 91%. The film was applied top over 30 square metres of glass by a team of The Window Film Company, with the film applied to the internal face of the glass.

Once in place, the film was effective immediately, with the external face of the film taking on a stylish reflective appearance – a look in keeping with the modern facility, while still allowing for a view from the inside out and of course reducing the glare.
