BEATING HEAT AND REDUCING GLARE

Apr 18 2025

The Window Film Company has completed an extensive installation of high performance heat and glare reduction window film, applying film to approximately 200 square metres of glass to a school in London.

The school is relatively modern in design and features large numbers of windows and exapsnes of glass throughout. The presence of glazing creates a stylish appearance, while also ensuring excellent levels of natural light inside the premises, while also affording those inside a welcome view outside.

While the aesthetic and architectural benefits of glass are undeniable, it’s equally important to understand the potential issues that large expanses of glass can lead to. Two of the primary issues are excess heat and glare, and window film from The Window Film Company can provide immediate and long lasting relief.

Untreated, standard glass can often allow the internal temperature to rise to uncomfortable levels, especially during the height of summer, often increasing reliance on expensive and environmentall unfriendly solutions such as air conditioning. By applying window film to glass, a percentage of the sun’s energy is rreflected away beefore it can pass through and add to the internal temperature, in turn helping to maintain a more moderate and enjoyable environment.

While excess heat is season-dependent, glare can be a year round problem. The changing position of the sun means that bright sunlight can pass through untreated glass at differing angles, making it difficult to comfortably focus on screens, work or colleagues. An application of window film can filter out the harshest of the sunlight, cutting out on glare without the need to resort to traditional methods such as drawing curtains or blinds – both of which block both natural light and the view.

Solar control window film fom the Window Film Company will reduce excess heat and glare without blocking high levels of natural light and while maintinging a daytime view to the outside.

This is why window film was chosen for this project; it was important that the view out was manintained and natural light still allowed to pass through. Aesthetics were also a consideration, with the silver, reflective daytime external appearance of the film fitting perfectly with the modern design of the facility.

The internal configuration of the premises meant that for the most part, access to the internal face of the glass wasn’t possible. This meant that an external grade of window film was installed throughout by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully qualified and experienced fitting teams. The film was External High Reflective Silver which delivers solar energy rejection of up to 78%, glare reduction of up to 83% and UV rejection of up to 99% - all delivered while allowing daytime vision from the inside out and without sacrificing high levels of natural light.
