FADE PROTECTION THIS SPRING AND SUMMER

May 03 2024

Clear UV is an optically clear window film from The Window Film Company, created to slow down the fading process without blocking the view of natural light. Suitable for application in commercial and residential locations, this project was completed at a home in Kingston Upon Thames.

Fading is a continual concern for any building that has external facing windows, and unless glazing is treated, damage can be done to furniture, upholstery, curtains, or anything else in direct sunlight.

Fade damage is caused by a combination of three main factors; UV rays, visible light and heat. While it’s important to note that the only way to stop fading completely is to block all three of these contributing factors, it is possible to use window film from The Window Film Company to mitigate against fading without sacrificing your view, natural light or changing the appearance of your glass.

This project involved the use of Clear UV window film. An optically clear film, it is designed to block virtually all of the sun’s UV rays – the biggest single contributing factor to fading. Once in place, the film blocks 99% of UV rays, helping to slow down the fading process and any subsequent damage.

The film was applied to the internal face of the glass (an internal installation is always preferable as it maximises the working life of the window film) with The Window Film Company’s installers applying the film to 9 panes throughout the property. With the film in place there was no aeasthetic alteration, but the owners of the home could relax, safe in the knowledge that there was an invisible extra layer of fade protection in place.
