The Window Film Company offers a range of heat reduction window films, for use in both commercial and residential settings. This project saw the application of external grade solar control film to a shopfront in Hertfordshire.
Solar control film from The Window Film Company reduces the levels of excess heat that enters a building through untreated glass. It’s this steady build up of heat that can result in unwelcome and uncomfortable high internal temperatures and window film provides a more effective and cost efficient solution than drawing blinds or relying on air conditioning systems.
During daylight hours, the film takes on a reflective external appearance, and it’s this mirrored effect that serves to bounce away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. This is achieved without blocking the view from the inside out and without sacrificing high levels of natural light, making it a popular option for offices, shops and other locations that are inhabited during the day.
The chosen film for this project, High Reflective Silver, reduces excess heat by up to 78% and will also cut glare by up to 79% - another issue that was causing problems at this site.
The final consideration for this project was that the film had to be suitable for an external application. The internal configuration of the premises meant that installing the film internally wasn’t possible, so the only option was an installation to the external face of the glass. The Window Film Company stocks a number of films that are designed specifically for these situations, so it was the external grade High Reflective Silver that was used in this instance.
The installation was undertaken by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert fitters, using a scissor lift to reach the second story windows.
Once in place, the film was effective immediately, helping to reduce excess heat and glare without blocking the view from the inside out and delivering a sleek, stylish appearance to the exterior.
