SORTING SOLAR CONTROL AT SCHOOL

Nov 17 2023

The Window Film Company supply and install a range of specialist window films, designed to lower heat levels, reduce glare and also block potentially harmful UV rays. It can be utlised in a range of locations, ranging from residential properties to busy commercial buildings such as hotels, shops and, as in this case, schools.

High Reflective Silver was the film selected for this project at a Warwickshire based school, where a film was required to deliver a solution for a number of situations.

Heat reduction – without blocking the view

A key consideration for heat reduction window film, especially in public buildings like schools, is that any solution doesn’t block the view out, and doesn’t sacrifice high levels of natural light. Doing this would negate two of the major benefits of having glazing in the first place, so High Reflective Silver has been specially developed to be effective at reducing heat while also allowing a daylight view to the exterior.

The film works by bouncing away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. This is achieved by the films reflective external appearance, which effectively acts as a mirror; reflecting away heat before it can enter premises.

Glare reduction – without sacrificing light

Glare can be a year-round issue, with the changing level of the sun and the angle of any sunlight meaning it can be difficult to focus on colleagues, screens or work. Often this results in lowering blinds or drawing curtains, which is sub optimal as it also blocks the view and prevents natural light from passing through. The window film used on this occasion ensured reduced levels of glare and increased levels of internal comfort, without sacrificing natural light.

UV protection – without the side effects

UV rays are the biggest single contributing factor to fading, and by applying High reflective Silver, the film used for this project, up to 99.9% of the sun’s harmful UV rays are prevented from passing through the glass, helping to slow down the potential damage caused by fading.

All three of these issues were addressed with the application of High reflective Silver window film, which was applied throughout the school to the internal face of the glass, by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installation teams. Once in place, the film was effective immediately, reducing excess heat, cutting down on glare and helping to protect against fading and other UV damage, all without blocking the view form the inside out during daylight hours.
