RIVERSIDE RESTAURANT PRIVACY

This project saw the installation of window film to several large panes at a popular riverside restaurant in Berkshire.

The venue is situated on its own island in the River Thames at Maidenhead, the window film was required to deliver privacy for those inside the restaurant. The film chosen was Medium Reflective Silver, which as the name suggests, takes on a reflective appearance during daylight hours. It’s this reflective, mirrored look that provides privacy, with those outside seeing a reflection, while those inside are still able to see outside. The privacy is achieved during daytime (the film works on the balance of light – it’s the side of the film that is exposed to the highest levels of light that will appear reflective) without blocking the view from the inside out, or sacrificing high levels of natural light.

The film will also serve to provide heat reduction during the warmer months, the reflective nature of the film bouncing away a percentage of the sun’s energy before it can pass through the glass and into the premises. It’s a great way of managing excess heat – the film won’t stop all warmth, it will slow down the build up of excess heat, helping to deliver a more comfortable internal temperature. Window film of this type is more effective than blinds and curtains, as both of these more traditional methods allow solar energy to pass through the glass, and also block the view.

Glare can be a year-round issue, with the changing position of the sun often resulting in light passing through the glass at awkward angles, often making for an uncomfortable environment. This film also blocks up to 99% of the sun’s potentially harmful UV rays – the single biggest contributing factor to fading, so an application of this film would also help to slow down the fading process, protecting equipment, furniture and upholstery.
