The Window Film Company has completed an extensive installation of high-performance heat reduction window film at a large hotel in Maidstone, Kent.
The Mercure Hotel in Maidstone boasts 126 bedrooms, 14 meeting and function rooms and can play host to up to 600 guests. The modern design of the hotel means that the majority of the façades are almost entirely made up of windows and glazing, delivering a contemporary appearance, providing a welcome view form the inside out throughout the property and also ensuring the rooms benefit from excellent levels of natural light.
Large quantities of glass can cause issues, however.
One of the most common problems when it comes to glazing is the build up of excess heat. This occurs when sunlight passes through the glass unchecked for a prolonged period of time, steadily increasing the internal temperature until it often reaches uncomfortable levels. Air conditioning is one way of combating this, but it is expensive and damaging to the environment, while drawing blinds or curtains is ineffective and undesirable – these are set back from the glass so still let the heat pass through and into the room, while also blocking natural light and the view from the inside out.
Window film provides a high-performance alternative, without blocking the view from the inside out and without relying on expensive air conditioning systems.
During daylight hours, the film takes on a reflective appearance and it’s the reflective, mirrored property that delivers the solar control, serving to bounce away a percentage (up to 78%) of solar energy before it can pass through the glass and into the property. The film will also reduce glare by up to 79% and block up to 99% of potentially harmful UV rays (UV rays are the biggest single contributing factor to fading).
All of these benefits are achieved without blocking the view from the inside out during daylight hours and without sacrificing high levels of natural light, a vital consideration when applying to bedrooms throughout the hotel.
The film was applied to the internal face of 280 panes across the hotel, in 66 different bedrooms, with High Reflective Silver fitted to the glass by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers. Once in place, the film was effective immediately, serving to help reduce excess heat, cut down on glare and filter harmful UV rays – all without sacrificing the view from inside or natural light.
