Keeping your home, conservatory or office cool during warmer weather can be difficult, but there is no need to resort to closing blinds, drawing curtains or relying on expensive air conditioning systems. Solar control window film from The Window Film Company provides a long lasting, cost effective and easy to install solution.
Warm weather is great, but how often are those lovely summer days ruined because your conservatory or home overheats too quickly? On long, hot days, if left unchecked the sun’s energy will constantly stream through glazing and windows, raising the internal temperature until it becomes too hot to enjoy. An application of specialist heat reduction film from The Window Film Company will help.
What is solar control window film?
Solar control window film from The Window Film Company is available in a range of grades and finishes, with each designed to prevent the build up of excess heat. The appearance will depend on the film chosen, with the majority of films applied to the internal face of the glass to ensure as long a useful life as possible. It’s easy to install and is available on a DIY basis or can be installed by our teams of expert fitters.
How does it work?
The majority of our solar control window films have a reflective external appearance. It’s this mirrored effect that serves to bounce away a percentage of the sun’s energy (the exact amount depends on the grade of film chosen) before it can pass through the glass and add to the temperature.
Will it make the inside dark?
No. Our high quality heat reduction window film has been specially developed to deliver highly effective solar control while also allowing for excellent levels of light transmission. Think of it as putting a light pair of sunglasses onto your windows! It’s important to be aware that the appearance of the film depends on the light balance; this means that it is the side of the film that is exposed to the higher level of light that will take on the reflective appearance. In effect this means that during daylight hours, the external facing side of the film will appear reflective, while you will be able to see from the inside out.
Will solar control film make the room cold?
No. Heat reduction window film will always allow some heat to pass through the glass, it is designed to stop excess heat from passing through the glass. The film will stop a percentage of the sun’s solar energy from entering your conservatory or home, and it’s by preventing this excess heat from getting into your property that helps to achieve a more moderate and enjoyable temperature.
How do I install heat reduction window film?
Solar control window film is easy to fit and can be installed with no prior experience and nothing more than a few standard household items. The process requires the application of a soapy water solution (a few drops of washing up liquid mixed with water in a plant spray bottle will suffice) to both the glass and the window film once the film’s backing sheet has been removed. With the glazing and exposed surface of the film covered in water, simply take the film to the pane and allow it to flow onto the glass. The soapy water will enable you to move it into the correct position, before using a plastic application squeegee (supplied with every order) to push any remaining moisture to the edge of the panel.
If you’d rather the film was installed by the experts (we’d recommend this for roof panels or large pieces of film) The Window Film Company offers a nationwide installation service, with fully qualified and vastly experienced installers available to complete your project, whatever the size.
Additional benefits
In addition to reducing excess heat, solar control window film also filters out 99% of potentially harmful UV rays. These rays are the biggest single contributing factor to fading, so by filtering these out the film can help to slow down the damaging effects of fading. The film also reduces glare, which can be a year-round problem; strong sunlight or light coming through windows at a lower, awkward angle can make it difficult to read or focus on screens in comfort - an application of solar control window film will provide immediate relief.
