NO MORE GLARE DESPAIR

The popularity of coffee shops shows no sign of slowing down. Huge numbers of people continue to enjoy a leisurely cappuccino or skinny latte, but a number of visitors to a Hampshire branch of Starbucks were having their experience marred by glare. The Window Film Company was approached to deliver a solution.

The glass frontage of the branch gave a sleek and stylish appearance, but also meant that at certain times of the glare from the sun was making for an uncomfortable environment for both staff and customers. The problem was identified as being caused by six large panels, each 4 metres square in size and after assessing the glass type, it was agreed that High reflective Silver was the appropriate solution.

The film reduces glare by up to 81% and does so without blocking natural light, or the view from the inside out. In addition, this high performance product also helps maintain a moderate internal temperature while also filtering out 99% of the suns UV rays – one of the primary causes of fading. Another primary consideration was the external appearance of the film, with the reflective finish fitting perfect with the modern, contemporary appearance of the building.

Due to the branch being continually busy, it was agreed that he work would take place outside opening hours, ensuring there would be no disruption or negative impact on the business. This was organised and agreed by The Window Film Company’s operations team, whose responsibility it is to manage the logistics for each and every installation. On this occasion, the job also required provision for scaffolding – the 6 large panes were at first storey height.

The installation was undertaken by one of The Window Film Company’s fitting teams, with the film being applied to the internal face of the glass. The size of the panes meant that two pieces of film were required to fully cover each panel; the experience of the team allowing them to install the film with a join that was imperceptible to the eye.

The work was carried out within the allotted timeframe, allowing the branch to open as normal with the customers and staff now fully protected from uncomfortable glare, ensuring an immediate improvement to the internal environment all year round.
