BRINGING LONDON TO LUTON

By using state of the art print technology and optically clear film, The Window Film Company created a detailed sketch-style London skyline, to meet manifestation requirements at premises based at Luton airport.

The front of the property comprised five large floor to ceiling glass partitions, each requiring manifestation. This is necessary by law for glass of a certain size, and is required to make glass visible. The markings need to be of a minimum size and cover a specific part of the glass, but apart from these stipulations, there is no restriction on how manifestation can appear.

With this in mind, the project managers decided to get creative and use a stylish design of the London skyline to meet manifestation legislation. The design was selected as the company’s headquarters are in the City of London, and the intricate, stylish nature of the graphics meant consideration would have to be given to the best way of creating a perfect reproduction.

After discussing the brief and carefully examining the artwork, it was agreed that the design would be created by printing a frosted effect onto optically clear film. By using optically clear film, the only thing visible once applied to the glass is the printed area, making it possible to recreate the most delicate and complicated patterns with perfect accuracy.

Sample panels were printed and sent to the client, with The Window Film Company’s dedicated graphics team making a number of changes to the opacity and appearance of the frosted effect before it was signed off. Each of the five panels were then printed at The Window Film Company’s Buckinghamshire base, before being finished and checked by hand, ahead of installation.

As with all fitting projects, the time and date was agreed with the client by the operations team, whose job it is to deal with all the logistics including organising access and a suitable date and time for the work to be carried out. The installation was completed by a team of The Window Film Company’s experienced and fully qualified fitters, delivering a quality finish with the minimum of fuss and disruption.

The end product was a stylish, professional looking display, with the frost effect adding to the contemporary feel of the design. The design flowed perfectly across the five panes, ensuring that manifestation requirements were met whilst also creating an eye-catching and impressive feature.
