FROM WATERCOLOUR TO WALLPAPER

Sep 04 2015

As part of an office fit out in the heart of central London, The Window Film Company was brought in to print and install a unique series of designs on a range of media including digital wallpaper and optically clear window film.

The spacious, modern office boasts several large glass partitions and expanses of plain walls, which the client wanted decorated. The artwork supplied for the project was fascinating; a digitised representation of a watercolour painting that the design team had identified. The artwork featured a wide spectrum of incredibly bold, bright and vivid colours and The Window Film Company was approached to bring the striking artwork to life.

The office is on the 8th floor of an impressive complex near Victoria station and features a large lobby area. It was this area that was to be the focus of an application of printed digital wallpaper, with a wall of over 45 square metres to be entirely covered. Digital wallpaper is a versatile and durable product that can be applied to almost any flat surface, making it the ideal decorative solution for previously ignored areas such as cupboards and doors.

The wallpaper, which starts life as a perfectly white product, was printed using state of the art print technology by The Window Film Company’s in-house print, graphics and design team – based at the Company’s Buckinghamshire HQ. The product benefits from a paste-free application process and is specifically designed for printing onto, meaning that combined with high quality print processes; the end product is an eye-catching, perfect replication of the original artwork.

In addition to the large expanse of wallpaper, a further 40 square metres of printed graphics were to be applied to glass partitions. Using further elements of the watercolour artwork, the graphics were printed onto optically clear film; adding an element of design, colour and style to the glazing as well as meeting manifestation requirements.

The wallpaper and window film were applied over the course of two days, with the finished installation serving to completely transform the look and feel of the office; creating a bright, welcoming, impressive and professional feel throughout.
