TAKING PRIDE IN PRIVACY

Down Hall Country House Hotel is one of England’s longest established country hotels. Founded on the site of a former monastery, the Hertfordshire retreat has been a fixture in the area since 1540 when the original country home was built. A number of locations within the historic grounds were identified as requiring a privacy solution and The Window Film Company was contacted to assist.

To maintain the elegant appearance of the hotel, some windows required obscuring. Previously the windows had provided an unobstructed view into rooms that were designed for employee access only. These locations housed machinery and supplies, vital components for the ongoing operation of the hotel, but parts of the hotel that would be better off shielded from view.

The brief was to provide a film that completely blocked the view from both sides of the glass, with the second requirement being that the film be applied to the external face of the glass – the set up within the rooms meant that access to the internal side of the windows was not possible.

With a full understanding of what was required, The Window Film Company were able to suggest a coloured vinyl as a solution. Available in a range of colours, the film will completely block the view from both sides of glazing, also preventing natural light from passing through the glass, which serves to protect against potential damage from fading. A durable and long lasting product, vinyl window film is also suited to an external application.

With the film agreed, attention turned to colour selection. The elegant surroundings of the hotel meant that a neutral, muted tone was required, something that would provide the necessary privacy without drawing the eye or looking out of place next to the venue’s classic architecture. The final choice was a soft grey, a decision that was vindicated when the film was installed. Once fitted the film delivered instant privacy, whilst the chosen colour blended perfectly with the surroundings.

The film was fitted by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and vastly experienced installation teams, who carried out the work quickly and efficiently, conscious of the need for the minimum of fuss at a venue that is constantly host to paying guests.
