CUT DOWN ON HEAT, KEEP THE VIEW

An office with a stunning view of the River Thames is hard to beat as a workplace, but even prime locations can suffer from unwanted issues. Heat was causing a problem at this impressive Central London premises and The Window Film Company was contracted to deliver a solution.

Any building with windows has the potential to suffer from excess heat. Solar energy passes through the glass and left unchecked, will steadily increase the internal temperature – often reaching uncomfortable levels. This office, whilst benefiting from incredible views, was suffering from solar gain and window film was identified as the appropriate fix.

A clear part of the project brief was that the view to the exterior must be maintained. The view across one of the most famous cityscapes in the world is one of the key benefits of the office and whilst heat reduction was the goal, it was imperative that this wasn’t achieved to the detriment of the view.

With a full understanding of the situation, The Window Film Company were able to suggest High Reflective Silver as the most appropriate film. One of the most popular and effective solar control products, the film works by reflecting away a high percentage of the suns energy before it passes through the window and into the room, preventing the steady build-up of excess heat. Once installed, the film gives the external face of the glass a stylish and contemporary mirrored appearance, whilst preserving the view from the inside during daylight hours.

As well as preventing the build-up of heat, the film will also provide an effective remedy to glare, cutting out the harsh sunlight which can be an issue all year round. By cutting out up to 99% of the sun’s harmful rays, High Reflective Silver solar control film will also help fight against fading, protecting equipment, flooring and upholstery from sun damage.

The office is busy on a daily basis, so to minimise disruption the installation was planned for a specific early morning time-frame. Using their experience, The Window Film Company’s team of fully qualified installers were able to carry out the fitting within the agreed time-frame whilst ensuring a flawless finish. Once installed, the film was effective immediately with staff and visitors benefiting from the controlled heat and reduced glare that same day.
