GREAT GRAPHICS IN LONDON

Jul 31 2015

Printed graphics are a cost effective and impressive way of creating a bespoke feature from windows and glazing, so when the London headquarters of a global consultancy firm required the addition of a custom design for the glass in their stylish office, The Window Film Company was brought in to deliver.

The office in question is based in the heart of Covent Garden in London’s West End and plays host to over 90 members of staff. It is a contemporary, modern space, with glass featuring prominently throughout. The partitions and full length glass doors help to deliver defined areas within the office without sacrificing the open plan feel and it was to these areas that graphics were to be applied.

The purpose of the application was twofold; to meet manifestation legislation as well as adding a prominent, unique element of design that would complement the existing style of the office. Manifestation is required by building regulations on full length glass partitions, windows and doors, and consists of markings designed to make the glass clearly visible. Regulations dictate a minimum size and locations for these markings, but as long as these basic stipulations are met, they can take on virtually any appearance. With this in mind, the client had created custom graphics that would run throughout each of the 9 large panels.

As film technology and print techniques continue to evolve, high quality printed graphics are being delivered in an increasing number of ways. One of the most popular and effective ways of creating complex or intricate designs is to print onto optically clear film. This method delivers the appearance of precision cut graphics without the need for complicated and time consuming cutting, which can impact on turn round time, cost and ultimately the quality of the finished product.

The bespoke graphics were supplied to The Window Film Company’s in-house graphics team, who set about creating proofs for the client to approve. The brief required that the design, featuring a combination of multi-directional lines and circles, should be created in the style of frosted film. The graphics team printed a number of different printed frost options, each with a slightly different composition and appearance. The samples were supplied on optically clear film, allowing for each version to be viewed in situ. With the exact finish approved, work began on setting up the files for print – ensuring that the pattern flowed perfectly from pane to pane.

With the print process underway, the dedicated operations team liaised with the client to agree on a suitable installation date, with a priority being the minimum of disruption to what is a very busy office. The fitting was undertaken by one of The Window Film Company’s experienced and fully qualified fitting teams, their skill and expertise allowing for a quick but flawless installation.

The result was the immediate transformation of the glass; the contemporary design meeting manifestation requirements whilst also adding to the appealing aesthetic of the premises.
