Windows are an integral part of most occupied buildings, with a view to the exterior and a source of natural light important for the comfort of occupants. However, glazing is also a primary cause of solar gain, with the sun’s energy passing through the glass and steadily raising the temperature inside. With premises that boasted a bank of windows spanning the entire front elevation, the Low Cost Travel Group’s base in Horley was experiencing this exact issue.
The brief provided to The Window Film Company was to suggest, supply and fit a window film that would help reduce excess heat without blocking the view or stopping natural light from passing through the glass. The most appropriate film was quickly identified as High Reflective Silver.
As the name suggests, the film has a reflective appearance, giving the external face of the glass a sleek and stylish mirrored appearance. It’s the reflective properties of the film that deliver solar control, bouncing away solar energy before it enters the property. It’s this functionality that makes window film more effective than blinds, which not only block the view when closed, but as they are set back from the glass, solar energy is still allowed to enter the room resulting in a heightened internal temperature. Once applied, the film is effective immediately, rejecting high levels of solar energy whilst maintaining the view from the inside out and allowing good levels of natural light to pass through the glass.
The film was installed by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and vastly experienced fitting teams, with the work taking place on a Saturday to ensure the minimum of disruption to the operations of the office. Film was applied to ten large windows, with each window divided into five smaller panes. The film was applied to the internal face of the glass, although for occasions when access to the inside of the glass isn’t possible, an external grade version of the film is available.
Once installed, the exterior of the building took on a sleek new appearance, the mirrored nature of the film delivering daytime one-way privacy as well as the desired levels of solar control. On the inside, the temperature was kept at a moderate level making it instantly more comfortable for staff and visitors.
High Reflective Silver also delivers additional benefits such as excellent glare reduction and fade protection, so for more information about this job, the film used or any other products in our solar control range, please contact a member of the team on 01494 794477 or by emailing info@windowfilm.co.uk
