Hauser and Wirth is a gallery with a reputation for showcasing the best in both established and emerging talent, and has hosted a number of bold and memorable exhibitions, so it was no surprise that the team wanted something slightly different for their Christmas window display.
The gallery wanted to feature an image that referenced the work of Swiss artist Dieter Roth, whose work is part of the current exhibition at the gallery and approached The Window Film Company for suggestions as to how it could be achieved. The solution was to apply a section of external grade black vinyl onto the outside of the glass. The image was printed onto a separate section of white vinyl and then applied as a second layer. The text, spelling out “Season’s Greetings” was cut from a mirrored gold vinyl, chosen specifically for the bright, vibrant, eye-catching appearance, the contrast with the solid black background giving it a luxurious yet festive feel.
The film was printed, cut and prepared by the in-house graphics and print team, based at The Window Film Company’s Buckinghamshire headquarters, with proofs provided to Hauser and Wirth at each stage of the process, to ensure the desired appearance and effect was going to be delivered.
With a suitable installation date agreed, the film was fitted by one of the Company’s professional installation teams. The nature of the film makes it suitable for external use, the manufacturing process allowing it to cope with the added pressure of winter weather. Despite the durability and long lasting nature of the vinyl used, it will be removed after the festive period, with the glass quickly and easily removed to its former untreated state.
Shop-fronts and windows are an obvious place for retailers and other organisations to make a statement, whether it be advertising a special offer, raising brand awareness or simply wishing passers by a Merry Christmas, window film and printed graphics from The Window Film Company are a cost efficient and effective way of making the most of glass and glazing.
