BOMB BLAST PROTECTION

Jan 06 2011

Sky's security editor Sam Kiley said transport police are being told to cancel days off today and there will be a heavy presence across the capital and as far as Luton and Heathrow.

It is times like this that remind us all to be on our guard and keep vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or packages to the police.

One thing that we can also do is to protect ourselves in our homes and offices by having Anti Shatter Window Film applied to our windows for bomb blast protection. In the event of an explosion serious injury can be caused by flying glass shards. With a suitable window film applied, the film can help to retain the broken glass within the frame, reducing the risk of injury to people and further damage to property within a building.

Safety and Security window films on annealed glass are intended to reduce High Hazard to Low Hazard or Very Low Hazard. Safety film on annealed glass with specifically designed containment systems can further improve the performance to Minimal Hazard or No Hazard.

A professional Risk Assessment is required to establish the risks from an explosion for a particular building. This will be dependent upon criteria including the glazing and glass types, size and thickness, the assessed threat, the building location, the building environment, and the usage of the building. The Risk Assessment will also identify the measures required for reducing the risks from an explosion. Installation of safety film is only a part of the overall strategy for protecting people and property in an explosion.

The Window Film Company® are able to carry out a full site survey and provide costs to supply and install the most suitable window film for your situation. Even if you have a window film already on your glass, you need to consider if it was specified correctly in the first instance (is it the correct thickness?), and how long the film has been installed for. A Risk Assessment from The Window Film Company will confirm this and whether the applied film needs to be renewed.
