Fading is a serious and damaging problem and can be experienced within any building that has glass; particularly those with large numbers of windows or a vast expanses of glazing. An application of window film from The Window Film Company can help mitigate against the effects of fading, and we were proud to be engaged to complete an installation at the world-famous Oxford University.
The film was required at the Lincoln College library, a beautiful and historic building that has played host to Oxford University students for generations. The stunning facility boasts a majestic interior, with one of the main features being huge windows throughout.
Fading is caused by a trio of main factors; heat, visible light and UV rays.Left unchecked, these three factors combine to cause fade damage over time, impacting artwork, furnishings, equipment and in this occasion, thousands upon thousands of books. Whilst stopping fading altogether is difficult without blocking all light (and therefore losing the view and any natural light source), by blocking the UV rays (the biggest single contributing factor) it is possible to dramatically slow down the process and mitigate against damage.
The Window Film Company offers a popular film for this exact purpose, in the shape of Clear UV - a specialist film that is completely clear and clocks up to 99% of the sun’s potentially harmful UV rays.
The film is popular because of its clear appearance. Once on the glass it is rarely visible, allowing natural light to pass through the glass while blocking UV rays - without altering the aesthetic appearance of the glazing and building. This was a particularly important consideration for a historic location such as this.
Clear UV fade protection film was installed throughout the library by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers, with the film applied to the internal face of the glass throughout the stunning facility.
Once in place, the film was effective immediately, providing invisible yet effective protection from fade damage all year round.
