ROOFLIGHT HEAT REDUCTION

The Window Film Company offers a range of external grade window films, designed specifically for application to the outside face of glass, when an internal fitting isn’t possible.

This project provides the perfect of example of when external window film is required. The client, a homeowner in Central London, had a number of roof lights incorporated into a rebuild of their property. These provided a stylish way of allowing extra natural light to pass into the home, also delivering an added view to the exterior.



However, as with all glazing, if it is left untreated, it can allow excess heat to pass through and into the home, quickly raising the internal temperature - especially during peak summer season.

The client contacted The Window Film Company in search of a product that would reduce heat without backing high levels of natural light and, crucially, one that could be fitted to the outside face of the glass - the position of the roof lights and the internal structure of the property meant that fitting to the inside of the glass was not possible.

The film selected for this project was the external version of High Reflective Silver, a high performance heat reduction window film that, as the name suggests, has a reflective or mirrored appearance during daylight hours. It’s this appearance that delivers the functionality, serving to reflect away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy, preventing it from passing through the glass and adding to the internal temperature. Some heat will still pass though, meaning that an application of this window film will never make your property feel unduly cold, but by reducing how much passes through, it helps stop heat from rising to excessive levels.



The film also allows for a view out during daylight hours, meaning it is an excellent one-way daytime privacy solution. In addition, the film also reduces glare and blocks out the majority of potentially damaging UV rays - the biggest single contributing factor to fading.
