Applying window film to glass is a highly effective way of reducing excess heat levels, cutting down on glare and blocking potentially harmful UV rays; and it can all be achieved without blocking the view from the inside out.
Maintaining the view is particularly important for projects such as this installation, that saw Optiview 15 solar control film fitted to floor to ceiling glazing at a Central London residence. The location means that the property enjoys stunning views across the city, with the large windows providing a panoramic effect, along with swathes of natural light.
Left untreated, glazing of this type can create issues; with excess heat a common problem. Without mitigation in place, solar energy will stream through the glass, increasing the internal temperature – which on warmer days can happen very quickly and result in an uncomfortable environment. Air conditioning is expensive, while shutting blinds or curtains is not only an ineffective method (the heat is still allow to pass the glass, curtains or blinds then just trap it), but doing so blocks the view and light, too.
For these reasons, an application of window film from The Window Film Company was the most appropriate and effective solution.
The film chosen was Optiview 15, a high-performance solar control window film that deliver solar energy rejection of up to 75%, alongside glare reduction of up to 84% while also blocking up to 99% of the sun’s potentially harmful UV rays.
The solar energy rejection is achieved thanks to the film’s reflective external appearance. During daylight hours the film has a mirrored external look, serving to reflect away a percentage of solar energy before it can pass through the glass and into the property. During the daytime, the view form the inside is unaffected, with the film specially developed to deliver the lowest levels of internal reflectivity.
The film was installed throughout the property by a team of The Window Film Company’s fitters, and was effective immediately, delivering high levels of solar control while also maintaining the view from the inside out and ensuring that the property still benefitted form excellent levels of natural light. The film also complemented the aesthetics of the modern property, making sure that as well as delivering heat reduction, it looked good too.
