The Window Film Company set a course for Brighton recently, tasked with navigating their way to a solution for what was proving to be a perfect storm; a combination of excess heat and a lack of privacy on board a private boat.
The beautiful vessel, housed in Brighton marina, benefitted from floor to ceiling glazing which delivered a stunning vista, giving the owners panoramic views of wherever they may be. There were however two issues caused by the large swathe of glazing. Firstly, when the boat was in the marina, it allowed passers by an unrestricted view inside. Secondly, the large glass panels meant that on a warm day, the interior temperature quickly rose to uncomfortable levels. A requirement was sought that would address both issues.
As well as providing an effective privacy and solar control solution, other key considerations were the appearance (any film would have to match the aesthetics of the boat), maintaining a view to the outside and allowing for excellent levels of natural light – one of the joys of being on board was the beautiful light created by being at sea. With a complete understanding of the brief, The Window Film Company was able to recommend High Reflective Silver as the most appropriate solution.
A high performance solar control window film product, HRS (high reflective silver) works by reflecting away a percentage of the sun’s energy before it can pass through glass and heat up the interior. The film has been specially developed to allow excellent levels of natural light to pass through, meaning it can maintain a comfortable temperature without sacrificing light or blocking the view to the exterior. The reflective nature of the film also delivers privacy, with the outside face of the glass taking on a mirrored appearance and blocking the view in for passers-by.
As well as delivering the performance required, the film was also an aesthetic fit, the sleek modern appearance matching the style requirements of the boats owners.
The film was installed by a team of The Window Film Company’s experienced fitting teams, with the film applied to the internal face of the glass. The result was a stylish looking solution to both excess heat and a lack of privacy, immediately enabling the owners of the boat to enjoy their life on the open wave as well as in the marina.
